As of January 2016, given there is more work than I can take, I have stopped accepting projects, unless they are truly exceptional in nature (or come from someone I like and have worked with in the past).
I typically work with early stage or technology companies and take a leadership position in whatever project I do for them. My firm belief is to do whatever is required to get the job done; I do not believe in advice alone, but in my personal self-driven execution.
I take on a select number of companies; typically working on one or both of:
Marketing projects
I lead marketing efforts in a variety of areas such as communications, copy writing, strategy, go to market, modelling etc, typically when an early stage team needs someone to mind the marketing store while they grow; Sometimes I ghost-write too…
Investment communications
I work with company management on preparing the materials for fund raising – presentation, model, summary. I don’t believe in business plans: whoever asks for them seldom reads them. I take an active role in forming the story and in executing its delivery, from the ultra formal (investment memorandums) to the haiku-like ten-slide deck.
